Transcript for "Mastering 3DEXPERIENCE Dashboards":
Glad to have you all join us today for our webinar. My name is Jared Trotter. I'm one of the applications engineers here at GoEngineer, specializing in three d experience applications, PDM and PLM applications. So, really excited to talk to you guys today about, our topic here of mastering three d experience dashboards. So, whether you've, just gotten started, with three d experience or you've been using it for a while, pretty sure there will be something useful, to all of you that have shown up today. We've tried to include, all of the big topics that are included there, for things that are going to, you know, really help your workflow, can help you get the most out of this resource that just so has for us here today. Now, for this particular presentation, I actually prefer to do things live and show them, you know, in the platform. So this is really the only slide, that I have. Everything else is gonna be in the browser. So let me go ahead and switch over there, and we'll get started. And we'll show you first of what, you might see when you first log in to three d experience. So, when you first log in, whether you get that invitation from one of your team members or you're the administrator and you've logged in, you're probably going to see, something that looks very similar to this. This is one of the first dashboards here. This is the my first dashboard you'll see, and you've got a couple of, items here for getting started. One of the things that we wanna go over first though is how to access your dashboards. Where are they? You know, because sometimes, you know, they go off to the side and people wanna know where they are. So what you're gonna wanna do is look in the top left hand corner over here, and you'll see the three bars here. We tend to call this the hamburger menu. And what you do is, you know, just hover over it and you'll see that it kind of, eclipses part of the screen, almost like the SolidWorks task pane. And then if you move to the side, then it kinda goes away. But to get it to stick, then what you wanna do is actually hover over it, and then you can click it. You'll notice that it said pin. So once that's pinned, then the rest of the screen adjusts, and you can see, the rest of your dashboard there. Now one of the, dashboards that I'm gonna start out with here, you'll see that there are several ones, and I'll talk a little bit more about, some of these as our webinar goes on. I'm gonna go over here to this collaborative designer for SolidWorks dashboard. This is one of the default dashboards, one that kind of comes preconfigured, particularly if you have that role, collaborative designer for SolidWorks, which kind of, you know, functions as an add in and allows you to save your data to the three d experience platform and to manage it. And the reason I wanna point this one out is because there's some really good resources in here that Dassault has provided to help you, you know, get started, not only with the applications and the features of that particular role, but just managing, dashboards themselves in general. So you'll notice in this first tab, there's a welcome tab here. There's several, you know, different tabs. But on the welcome one, it's kinda broken up into three sections that they've got here. The first one talks about the different apps that you may use in your current role. So you'll notice that there's, SolidWorks Design there. We have some of our x apps, xDesign, xShape, and so forth. And then it takes you into more of your collaboration and manage apps. So, it gives you an idea of what some of the most, heavily featured or the, most common apps are to use that are going to support you, in your workflow. Next, there's the learning center, which is a link to several YouTube videos that Desilis produced, whether it's getting started, with SolidWorks, or some of the x design apps, or managing your data in SolidWorks. They've done a pretty good job of making this information succinct and easily accessible. And it all starts with knowing, you know, how to get to this dashboard. And then of course in the public communities, this is where you can reach out to other users. Things like the SolidWorks user forum, there's a link to that. And you can can collaborate with other individuals, answer questions, and just kind of have a community of people to talk to about different issues. Now currently, this I've moved this into my favorite section, but where this started out was actually in this cockpit section. And if I expand this, you'll see that there are several other cockpits that I have. These correspond to different roles that have been assigned me in my organization. And the same for you, the number of roles that you get is going to correspond to how many of these kind of custom pre made dashboards that you get. So cockpit is really, the same as the dashboard, but ones that have been, like, handpicked and customized by the so to get you kind of up and running off to races, just a little bit more quickly. So, those are some of the behaviors and dashboards that you can expect to see, right out the box. But one of the things that we're gonna really focus on today is creating our custom dashboards. You know, creating them from scratch, something that's going to be, applicable for you and that you'll get the most use out of. So to create a new dashboard, you know, we stay here in this section here. Make sure that you see the, three lines there for the hamburger menu. And then you're gonna click this icon right here that says to add dashboard. So, under this create dashboard heading, you're able to put in some information here. So we're just gonna start a sample in here, and we'll call this, getting started dashboards. Optionally, you can put in a description. You don't have to, but in this case, we will. So we can say, GoEngineer webinar. I'll go ahead and create that. You'll see that this gets added to our dashboard section. For the sake of brevity and succinctness, I'm gonna collapse the top bit section. And here on the game start with dashboards, any dashboard that you have, whether it's the one that's active or it is these others that are not active, you'll see this little caret icon. And we have, several different menus that we can use to manage our dashboard, begin to add things because, of course, right now, this is completely blank. Since it's a new dashboard, we have, you know, just a single tab, which doesn't have anything in it yet, but we're gonna start to fill this out. So if we click this little drop down arrow, the first thing we'll start with is just the simple edit button. That takes us back to the, first little page that we initially, where we created it. What we actually wanna do is go to the manage section. Now once, manage section pulls up, you'll see that we've got a few different tabs to access. And whenever you create a dashboard, you are the owner. You know, you are the creator. You are the owner of it. However, you can add people to your dashboard so that they can see the same content that you put in there. That's going to be accessible with this little button right over here, the little person icon with the plus. So you can click add members. And then this is where you can not only assign other people, to be on the dashboard, but you can control their level of access and what they do. So reader is the most restrictive one. This person can see what you've got on there, but they don't have any kind of editing capabilities. They are simply a viewer, of according to the content that you put in there. The next level is the contributor. They're able to modify different web apps to a certain degree. And then lastly, owner, you can put someone at the same level as you are when you create it. They'll have full editing rights, being able to manipulate the widgets, remove them, add widgets into it, that kind of thing. So you have those different levels of access that you can add there. So, moving on to our next section here. We're gonna go to our settings. And notice a couple of things here that are just, like for customizing. We'll focus on the bottom section of this right now, a thumbnail and a background. So these two things make them unique and identifiable, you know, separate from your other, dashboards. So I'll go ahead and go to my thumbnail here. Click on this little, you know, icon here, and we can bring in a picture there. I'm going to bring in Dash from the Incredibles for this getting started dashboard because I feel like I'm entitled to at least one dad joke during this webinar. So I'll go ahead and click apply. And then we'll also get a background. So click on that. We'll get, our nice GoEngineer background that we can click, and then we'll we'll apply it there. So, go ahead and hit the exit button. You'll see where both of those images are applied. It's sort of a little thumbnail is over here to the left, and then we've got our GoEngineer background, before we start, you know, adding our different widgets. Now since we have those, we've kind of identified it, let's start putting some actual content into, this dashboard. We'll start by creating a few different tabs. So I'm gonna do a total of four. And all you do is just click on it, and then you can start to, type in the text that you want. Additionally, if you want to further differentiate it, you know, in addition to the actual text, you can actually put, little, emoticons in there. And you can do that by hanging your Windows key and then the semicolon key. And it's gonna pop up a list of emojis and different things that you can put in there. So for this one, I've got a few that are kind of at the top that I'm gonna select. So for our data review, I'll put this little clipboard there. And then our next one is going to be approvals. So maybe that's, another task that you want to be able to do. So for approvals, maybe that's a green check mark. And then for our next one, will be support. And maybe that shows, you know, the the collaboration that that we have between, you know, you and your reseller. In this case, it'll be a Cisco engineer. And then one more I'm gonna put is ideation. And as we fill these out, it'll be clear why I'm naming these as such. But right now, we've got a good start. We've got, you know, four different tabs where we can add things. So now that we've got our tabs, we need to add some widgets to it. And for that, we're going to change our interface just a little bit. Whereas right now, we have our list of dashboards. We're gonna click the compass, and that's gonna allow us to see our different roles and apps. So with our apps up, we can, certainly scroll down. You see that we've got several different apps here, but one of the things that's going to be implicit in this webinar is I'm gonna give you an indication of some of the apps that are most heavily used, kind of in conjunction with that welcome screen that we saw from the collaborative designer dashboard. So for data review, the first one I'm gonna put in here is the content explorer. Content explorer allows you to see all of your content that you have added, to the platform. And this, to a degree, is going to replace what some of you may have been using in the bookmark editor. Now the bookmark editor, if we add that in temporarily, you'll see that there are some similarities, because we can see, you know, all of our content, we highly encourage people to use this, when it first came out because it allows you to, navigate your collaborative spaces in order to see your different content. But a couple things, one is that the content explorer is a little bit more robust. It was introduced, just a month or so ago. Allows you to better visualize your collaborative spaces and your content. That's one of the reasons we're starting to see a shift in using content explorer rather than bookmark editor. But also, bookmark editor is actually accessible up here at the top. If you go to, this little icon for content and click this drop down that defaults to three d drive, but you can click on bookmark editor there. And the nice thing is that you can access this little icon and the bookmark editor no matter which dashboard that you're in. So it has a persistence to it that transcends any of the dashboards. So still a very useful tool and you can access it, you know, wherever. So, for that reason, I'm going to go ahead and close it temporarily for now and then remove this widget. So anytime you add a widget to a tab in a dashboard, not only can you resize it, you see that I've clicked on this and I'm, you know, moving it side to side, but you can also just go ahead and remove it. Now with that, I'm going to add in one other, app here. So gonna get the three d Play app and put this on the side. And you see that as I drag it across, the existing apps kind of correspond to it. I'm gonna leave it positioned like this for now, but we're going to make some changes, once we load all of these up. So if go to approvals, I'll go to collaborative life cycle, bring that guy in. That's gonna be the only one that we put there. For the support tab, I want to put in the Success Hub app. Success Hub is an application that GoEngineer has come up with. So we've been, really deep into making this as a user friendly experience as possible. So this particular widget, actually connects your account, inside of three d experience dashboard. And we'll talk a little bit more about that, once we come back and size things appropriately. Ideation, I'm gonna put in a couple of the x apps here. So I'm gonna get x design and then I'm going to get x shape and just bring that down here to the bottom. Now that I've got all of those in, I wanna show you how you can, actually maneuver these and change the shapes of them so that it matches what you want. So here, these two apps, are loaded in our data review tab. We can actually, you know, move those and change them. You'll notice that if I drag one over that it kind of pushes the other one out of the way. So what we're gonna do is actually use one of the options here from the tab. So at the drop down, we're gonna choose the fit option. That way they're nice and snug up to each other, and we can actually move them in such a way that they respond to each other, you know, a little bit better. Let's go over to the approvals tab. The instinct of a lot of people is to go ahead and maximize, a widget that they bring in, which is okay. It just takes up the full screen. It covers everything else. So if that's expressly what you wanna work in and really take a deep dive, that works really well. But now you'll notice that you can't see your different tabs and navigate back to them. So in order to get out of that, we can hit the exit full screen option. And instead of doing that, we'll double click on the header, and then that way it takes up the full space, but you can still see the, the tabs and the headings up there. Now as we move along, one of the things that I wanna show you is that you can actually drag content between your tabs. So say for instance I want to grab, you know, this, piece of content here from my collaborative space. I simply click on it. I hover over my approvals tab, and then I can drop it into that widget. So you have the flexibility to move content between different tabs. Gonna go over here to the support tab. Double click on this guy. Like I mentioned, this is your kind of go to, section. If you are on a subscription with us, you get access to, not only training on different things on the three d experience platform, but you can keep track of your tech support cases as well. So, really handy tool that we, encourage everyone to get set up with. You'll probably work with one of our customers' test managers, when you get started here, and we make sure that we get that set up for you. Lastly, for this ideation tab, in this case, maybe we don't want two widgets to be confined just to this space. Maybe we wanna take advantage of the full, you know, space, but we want, to have those, you know, both easily accessible. So what I can do is actually stretch these. And the reason this stretches this way is because the alternate option rather than fit that we did, and you'll see once I switch it back and forth, there's fit and then there's scroll. So that's what defaults to the scroll option. And then that way, you can have your app speed kind of as big as you want, and then you just use the scroll bar on the side and you can make that as big, you know, as you want to. So fit and scroll are the two visibility options, that you have there. Now, I'm gonna make kind of a test tab here because I wanna show one other feature. So if we make one other, tab, we'll call it the education tab and bring in the three d learn, no widget here. So this is some resources that Dassault has created to, to kind of educate people on the different roles and different apps that we have. If I delete this, you'll notice that an icon comes up there. Education has been moved to this dashboard's recycle bin. So where is that at and how do you access it? Well, if we go to the drop down here, this is one of the other places that we can access in our dashboard. You click that drop down, you'll notice that we can go back to manage, and then the recycle bin is over here. And you'll notice there was an app that we deleted earlier, and then an entire tab. And you can choose whether you want to restore, just that individual tab or if you want to bring back all of those web apps as well. So, we'll close that and a few other items that we can do for the dashboard as a whole, you know, once it's set up, maybe we want to access that as easily as possible. So if we click this drop down again, one of the options that we have is to set as startup. If we click set as startup, then that means even if you log out of your browser, you know, you close your browser, when you go back to your tenant, then that dashboard that you have set up as home, that's the one that's going to start up rather than one of these other dashboards that was created, you know, by default. But the one that you set as home is going to be one that's set up there. Now we have these different categories up here. So, in this case, you know, maybe you've got, you know, your cockpits, and that's a lot of dashboards. Maybe you've got a long list of here that you've got, and you want to access those easily. It's pretty easy to move them to your favorites. So all you do is click and drag and then it, you move it to the top and now it's in your favorites. And in order to create that, it's simple to just click the little drop down arrow here and create a section whether you want to, you know, move those. Now, why would you want to have more than one dashboard? Maybe that's a a question that you're asking is, you know, you see the different options that we have here. Some of the different reasons, maybe you're working on different projects. Maybe you wanna have a dashboard that's specific to a single project. So, for instance, I have one here where I use some of the design apps that I really like, like XShape and then XGenitive design for some projects that I wanna do for, ideation. So I keep that separate from some other things. Another reason you might wanna have another dashboard is for working on different teams. So internally, we have a team that's dedicated to three d experience and supporting our customers and that's this dashboard that I have here. Going back to one of the things that I mentioned about accessibility, you'll notice that I am actually marked as a reader on this one. That's because, my manager is the one who's created this dashboard, invited me and the rest of the team to it. And in addition to, you know, different projects or different teams, maybe you have different tasks that you want to accomplish. So we have the capability to, of course, dedicate different tabs to that like we did in this one for different tasks. But if this becomes, you know, a lot to have, maybe you got a bunch of different tasks up here, maybe just decide, you know what? Let me have, a separate dashboard to kinda break those out and segment those a little bit more. So, one of the things that, we'll mention as we start to kinda wrap up here and get to the end here is duplicating, managing, and sharing. So, one of the things that we will go back to, if we go back to this manage section, if we go into settings, you'll notice, these two bottom options here. There's enable duplication for all members. And if you hover over that icon, even if you've added someone who's only a reader to your dashboard. If you enable this, enable duplication, they can have their own copy of that dashboard, complete with their widgets, and they can modify it the way that they want. And one that kind of goes hand in hand, with this is the enable duplicated dashboards to be resynchronized on demand. So what that means is if someone has duplicated it and then they've made modifications to it, but then they want to get back to the version that was initially shared with them, then they can resynchronize it to that state that it was initially shared with them. So, the last thing that we'll go through as we, look at dashboards is how to share them. So there's three different places that you can actually get to just based on, maybe which section of the screen that you spend more time in. So we click this drop down, you know, once more, you'll see that there's a share icon here. Up at the top where it lists what dashboard we're in, we select that drop down. There it is again. And then there's one more over here to the side where we can click share. And there we can specify whether it's just a specific app, a tab, or a dashboard that we wanna share. So if we click that, you'll notice that you can share a copy of it, you know, with the individual user. You enter their their name, they'll get an invitation to it. You can also choose to share via link, and then you can also go back to managing members of the dashboard, which was one of those, initial pages that we saw when we went to manage. So, this will enable you to share the contents of your dashboard with whoever you see fit within your organization. You can control that level of access. But then, of course, you can just set it up to be personalized for you. So maybe you have some dashboards that are meant to be worked on with others, but you have some that are just specifically for you. And, of course, that's catered to, you know, which apps that you have, which roles that you have. You may use dashboards just a little bit with just like two or three apps. You may have something more extensive depending on, you know, how many roles are assigned to you. So that is actually the extent of the content that I have for you today. So, I wanna thank you all for tuning in to this session today. and I hope you all have a great rest of your day.
